Good to know

Before your session: • Give your pet a little exercise beforehand, but don't completely wear them out. A short walk or some playtime can help take the edge off without leaving them exhausted. • If your pet is food motivated, try not to feed a huge meal right before the session. Hungry enough to care about treats is helpful. Starving your animal is obviously not required, lol. • Give them a quick brush and wipe down before arriving if needed. Eye boogers, drool, mud, and mystery crusties have a magical ability to show up in high resolution. • Bring water, especially for outdoor sessions or warmer days. • If your pet has a favorite blanket, toy, bandana, collar, or anything meaningful you'd like photographed, bring it! For nervous, reactive, or easily overwhelmed animals: Your animal does not need to be perfectly behaved to have beautiful pictures taken. Nervous, fearful, reactive, or overexcited animals are welcome. We will give them time and space to settle in before we begin. Please let me know ahead of time about any triggers, fears, bite history, or handling restrictions so I can plan the session safely. Your animal's safety and comfort will always come before getting the shot. During the session: • Don't worry if your pet doesn't sit perfectly, look at the camera, or cooperate immediately. That's normal! • Most animals need breaks, sniffing time, movement, and a little bribery. • Please don't repeatedly correct or pressure your pet if they're struggling. We'll work with what they're comfortable giving us. • If your pet knows tricks, bring your trick list! Sit pretty, middle, paws up, bark, spin, hold, jump, or anything else they know can make for some really fun photos. Leashes: For safety, dogs may need to remain leashed during the session depending on the location. A thin leash photographs best and may be easier to edit around when possible. I have a thin slip lead available if needed, but you're welcome to bring your own. Location & weather: Outdoor photography depends on the weather, because apparently Mother Nature refuses to check my calendar. If conditions are unsafe or likely to make the session miserable, we can reschedule. Cloudy days are not a bad thing! Soft, overcast light can actually be gorgeous for photos. People in the photos: If you'd like to be included, you're absolutely welcome to be. Don't stress about posing. I'll help guide you through it. Try to avoid clothing with huge logos, neon colors, or very busy patterns unless that's specifically the look you're going for. Most importantly: Please don't worry about your animal being "embarrassing." They can bark. They can get distracted. They can refuse to sit. They can decide a leaf is suddenly the most important thing they've ever seen. We'll work with them, not against them.
